Postdoctoral Research Fellow: Optical beam shaping for cell biology

The advent of novel technology in the form of spatial light modulators and acousto-optic devices is revolutionising biophotonics and applications in micromanipulation. We are seeking candidates with experience in these technologies to develop new systems for understanding cell patterning, cell-cell signalling and imaging. Innovations in hologram design will accompany cutting edge biology applications [more]

Postdoctoral Research Fellow: Organic Semiconductor optoelectronics for neurophysiology

This innovative project will develop organic semiconductor optoelectronic devices for monitoring and stimulating the activity of neurones. It aims to provide new tools for the study of brain function and the development of a brain-machine interface. It will establish an exciting collaboration between the departments of physics and psychology. A PhD in a physical science, engineering or neurophysiology (or equivalent experience) is required. Experience in some of optoelectronics, electronics, and organic semiconductors is required together with a strong interest in applying this knowledge to the rapidly developing field of neurobiology. Alternatively a background in neurophysiology together with a strong interest in optoelectronics would also be suitable. [more]

Postdoctoral Research Fellow: Novel single-molecule fluorescence techniques

Single molecule spectroscopy gives unique insight into the behaviour of molecules and their interactions. This project aims to explore new ways to visualise single-molecules and single biomolecular aggregates for longer time scales, implement multicolour imaging techniques to investigate the dynamics of complex biological systems and develop a new framework to investigate the folding dynamics of RNA while it is being transcribed. We are seeking candidates with experience in some of the following areas: single-molecule fluorescence, optical spectroscopy and molecular biology and with a strong interest to develop cutting-edge interdisciplinary research at the interface between physics and molecular biology. [more]
