International two-year Master Programme in Photonics

International Master's Degree Programme in Photonics is a two-year degree programme taught in English at the University of Eastern Finland. The goal of the programme is to educate students with outstanding skills needed both in international careers in optics and photonics or related fields, and also in post-graduate studies.

The Master's Degree Programme in photonics comprises of 120 ECTS credits, which can be completed in two years. 1 ECTS (1 op) corresponds to about 25-30 hours of work. The application cycle for 2010-2012 will be open on March 29th to April 30th, 2010.

The admission processes in the International two-year Master's Degree Programme in Photonics aim at fair selection of high-quality applicants. All the applicants to the International Master's Degree Programme in Photonics must meet the following requirements:

1. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Physics or another discipline related to the programme, entailing proficiency in physics and mathematics.

2. English language proficiency may be proved by:
TOEFL: minimum of PBT 580/ CBT 237/ IBT 92 or IELTS: minimum of score 6.5 or higher or equivalent certificate or proof of adequate language skills. The test results should be sent to the university directly from the testing centre (University of Eastern Finland, TOEFL code is 9779). The English language test is not required for applicants whose native language is English, or for applicants who have completed their bachelor's studies in English.

3. Motivation and ability to study in competitive and demanding environment in a foreign country.
