Physicians show, where it needs to shine

On Wednesday, December 7, an international consortium of doctors evaluated on going research projects within Photonics4Life Consortium in Karlsruhe that can better diagnose and treat diseases with the help of optical technologies. At a scientific meeting of the interdisciplinary network Photonics4Life 19 European projects were presented. From those the doctors now selected eight that are the most promising to be put into clinic trials. The project leaders can now present their winning projects across Europe at several important occasions.  [more]

P4L forges alliance with Montpellier cluster

Today the Network for Biophotonics Photonics4Life welcomes a new associated Partner. Cluster “Montpellier” will join P4L to add its combined expertise in cameras for oral diagnostics and clinical endoscopes. Cluster “Montpellier” is composed of three entities, an industrial partner, a clinical research group from the dental faculty and a laboratory of biophysics-biophotonics. The three organisms started working together on a project concerning the development of an intraoral camera to facilitate the detection of precancerous lesions and cancer of the oral mucosa after staining and / or based on the autofluorescence of the tissues. [more]

P4L researchers help Uzbekistan

P4L researchers help Uzbekistan

Due to the climate change a potentially catastrophic ecological situation has developed in Uzbekistan. Scarce resources of fresh water accompany a rapidly growing population. As a result severe droughts become more frequent. They lead to a proliferation of many diseases especially in the Aral Sea region. Over the last years Uzbekistan was able to acquire much needed medical equipment for diagnostics and treatment. However, the educational and research infrastructure in Uzbekistan is not yet able to provide qualified and experienced personnel to operate and modify the devices. [more]
