Abstract

Abstract: Collaborative research project COLONVIEW Funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research Early diagnosis and intraoperative localization of colon cancer The collaborative project COLONVIEW aims at an improved early diagnosis and an simplified intraoperative localization of colon cancer. The project focuses on fluorescence endoscopy, as it can differentiate tumors from healthy tissue on a molecular basis, and thus very early and exactly. An important goal of the project is to provide novel tumor-specific contrast agents for fluorescence endoscopy. The imaging agent for the early detection of colon cancer consist of a tumor-specific peptide which is coupled to a fluorescent dye. This label illuminates the tumor when observed through a novel fluorescence coloscope. For the intraoperative localization of colon cancer a nanoparticle probe is used. Applied in-vivo before surgery, it shall allow for a simple localization of tumors during minimally invasive surgical intervention using a novel fluorescence laparoscope.
