NBIP Ireland, in affiliation with the Royal Microscopical Society (RMS) will host a Conference in October 2010 (BioPIC 2010) attracting both national and international expert speakers from the world of biophotonics and imaging to highlight the need for a pan-European research infrastructure in bioimaging. BioPIC 2010 is also seen as an opportunity for trans-national networking, building of collaborations between academia and industry and showcasing of advances in biophotonics and imaging research and technologies. The RMS has also tentatively offered to publish a special issue of the Journal of Microscopy containing papers presented at the meeting.
A list of topics and keynote/plenary speakers for the BioPhotonics and Imaging Conference in 2010 (BioPIC 2010) will be published on the NBIP Ireland website (www.nbipireland.ie). Registration will open in mid April.

On Wednesday, December 7, an international consortium of doctors evaluated on going research projects within Photonics4Life Consortium in Karlsruhe that can better diagnose and treat diseases with the help of optical technologies. At a scientific meeting of the interdisciplinary network Photonics4Life 19 European projects were presented. From those the doctors now selected eight that are the most promising to be put into clinic trials. The project leaders can now present their winning projects across Europe at several important occasions. [more]
