NBIP Ireland, in affiliation with the Royal Microscopical Society (RMS) will host a Conference in October 2010 (BioPIC 2010) attracting both national and international expert speakers from the world of biophotonics and imaging to highlight the need for a pan-European research infrastructure in bioimaging. BioPIC 2010 is also seen as an opportunity for trans-national networking, building of collaborations between academia and industry and showcasing of advances in biophotonics and imaging research and technologies. The RMS has also tentatively offered to publish a special issue of the Journal of Microscopy containing papers presented at the meeting.
A list of topics and keynote/plenary speakers for the BioPhotonics and Imaging Conference in 2010 (BioPIC 2010) will be published on the NBIP Ireland website (www.nbipireland.ie). Registration will open in mid April.

The European Network of Excellence for Biophotonic Photonics4Life welcomes a new Associated Partner – the Molecular Photonics Laboratory (MPL) of the Department of Basic and Applied Sciences for Engineering of Sapienza University of Rome. MPL will contribute to P4L with its expertise in organic nonlinear optics and integrated optics. More recently it entered the field of Biophotonics and after five years experience is now coordinating the EU project BILOBA – Bloch surface electromagnetic wave bio-sensors for early cancer diagnosis. The P4L Interdisciplinary School on Clinical Biophotonics offers a new approach towards interdisciplinary
learning in Biophotonics. To foster education and communication across disciplines one half of the lecturers and presumably the attending students at the school will have a medical and the other half a technological background
in Biophotonics. Most of the lecturers are working together in research projects and form speaker tandems at the school to shed light on their topics from both angles. [more]
