Junior Professor in Nonlinear Waves and Photonics in Nanostructured Materials

To foster excellence in research and education in the Center for Nonlinear Science and the Center for Nanotechnology, Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster invites applications for a
Junior Professor (f/m) in Nonlinear Waves and Photonics in Nanostructured Materials

(W1 salary; equivalent to a non-tenure track assistant professorship or lecturer).

The position will start 1st February 2010 or later, and is initially for three years with a possible renewal for another three years period. The position comes with substantial funding (position for PhD, start-up funding). Appropriate laboratory space and access to a technology platform for state-of-the-art laser-based structuring is provided.

The position will be associated with the Institute for Applied Physics that has its research focus on Nonlinear Photonics, Dynamics of Spin Waves, and Optical Technologies. It is an integral part of the Center for Nonlinear Science (www.cenos.uni-muenster.de) as well as the Center for Nanotechnology (www.centech.de), and will play an important role in the future development of nonlinear waves and photonics in nanoscale structured systems. Moreover, it will be integrated into existing and future Collaborative Research Centers / Transregional Research Centers at these institutions. Possible research directions include photonics in nanostructured systems, metamaterials, plasmonics, and related fields that especially combine nonlinear wave effects with nanoscale-structured systems.
We expect applications from outstanding individuals at the onset of their scientific career. PhD, postdoctoral experience and a strong publication record are expected in a topic related to the call. The successful candidate is expected to collaborate closely with surrounding groups in photonics, nonlinear physics and nanophysics, as well as in ongoing research projects in the Faculty of Physics, and is encouraged to acquire additional external funding. The candidate will be involved in university teaching in Bachelor and Master courses, especially in the fields of Photonics, Magnonics, Nonlinear Physics and Nanophyiscs, and is expected to take over administrative tasks.

The University of Münster seeks to increase the proportion of female staff members in the faculty and therefore encourages interested female candidates to apply. Handicapped candidates with equivalent qualifications will be given preference.

For further information, please contact Prof. Dr. C. Denz (denz@uni-muenster.de), Tel. +49 (0)251-8333517.

Applications (hardcopy as well as electronic) including CV, list of publications and a detailed research statement that emphasizes possible local collaborations should be sent by December 15th to the Dean of the Faculty of Physics, Herrn Prof. Dr. J. Wessels, Wilhelm Klemm-Str. 10, 48149 Münster, Germany (dekanphy@uni-muenster.de).
