The main contributions of the ISC- CNR research group will be in the field of advanced optical microscopy and scanning probe microscopy for cell and molecular biology.

The research activity of the group concerns the instrumentation design and setup, the measuring techniques, and data analysis procedures for biological imaging and particularly:

  • One-photon and multiphoton excitation
  • Fluorescence Lifetime Imaging Microscopy (FLIM )
  • Fluorescence Resonance Energy Transfer (FRET)
  • Supercontinuum generation
  • AFM imaging of biological samples cells and tissue and morphological analysis of protein aggregates.
  • AFM measurements of elasticity curves and elasticity maps on cells.
  • Construction of AFM devices

Round Robin Experiment

Raman spectroscopy has already proved its effectiveness in many cases for medical diagnostics such as for cancer, cardiovascular diseases and infections. However, there are no standards in the different working groups, e.g. for sample preparation, implementation of the Raman experiments, spectra pre-treatment, data evaluation, etc.In a round robin experiment, the required groundwork will take place in order to define standardised Raman measurement methods, which will be fundamental for establishing Raman spectroscopy for clinical diagnostic procedures.
