The Department of Biology was opened as an independent department in 1931. Today the Department has 8 chairs: Morphology and Ecology, Botany and Ecology, Genetics, Biochemistry and Biophysics, Human and Animal Physiology, Microbiology and Plant Physiology, Methods of Teaching Biology and Ecology, Environmental Protection and Safety. Currently, the faculty consists of 14 Doctors of Science and 43 PhD students.
